CommentsHi Andy and everybody else. Not been on here for a while due to not being to well. Started back in March when I cut my wrist. Don't even remember doing it. I was told back in 2000 that I had PTSD and that I would have it for the rest of my life. so tried to get on with it. My life has totally changed due to this illness not only mine but everybody who is close to me which is not a lot of people. Just want to say that you can get on with life even though you don't think you will. I am now on tablets and also been awarded a war pension for life. So anybody out there make sure you see the doctor before it is to late and also speak to the war pensions department, they can help in many ways. Also combat stress is a great help just waiting to go in for treatment and I know that will be hard but I have to do it not just for me but for the people it has affected in my life as well. So keep strong and try not to let it beat you. You just need to talk. Stay strong all of you Mac.
CommentsI would just like to say hi to all who visit this site and to say that both myself and daughter are mental health nurse students due to graduate. As my ex husband and son both served with the Army and my sisters and brother with the RAF we are familiar with the forces. I would just like to say that we are both very interested in PTSD within the military as we believe more needs to be done for you all. We both work with SSAFA and have just been informed that there are at present 6 specialist units for PTSD for forces personnel set up around the country. These units are on a trial basis to enable them to research the best course of interventions for PTSD. I am at present trying to find out more information about the unit near where we live and when I do I will post what information I have. Love to you all I look forward to hearing more about these centres and what they can offer. If you email me direct I will create a page on my website to provide as much information as we can to veterans. Long time waiting Andy
CommentsI am a mental health professional and have learned quite a bit from your site . In many ways your information and advice for people suffering from PTSD has more influence than perhaps coming from a Your message seems to have been cut short but thank you so much for your kind words. I word hard to keep the website as up-to-date and relevant as I can. Andy
CommentsA first class site, you people do a wonderful job, your a credit to our country. Outstanding A. Gordon. N.Ireland
CommentsAndy Thank you, this is a good site and extremely informative. I have just started the ball rolling to get help. I served 70-94 (Army) and in that time clocked up a little over 8 years active service. I came home, my mind never has.
CommentsI have just been diagnosed with PTSD, its taken 6yrs however I have now began treatment. I think sites like this are important so that you know you arnt alone, thanks for making it
CommentsHi Andy Loads of useful information and a great effort. I wonder if you would be kind enough to place a link to the UDR & Royal Irish (HS) Aftercare Service web site its at www.aftercareservice.org one of the services we offer is professional psychotherapy counselling for PTSD and other service related challenges Hi, I have put a link on both the Regimental Website page and the Web site links page for you. Keep up the good work, regards Andy
CommentsAndy, thank you for setting up this website. PTSD is something which most people associate with just soldiers, and as you state it is not. I was involved in a house fire, and have been living with PTSD ever since. It is a horrible thing to live with, and to be honest, it was only when I was diagnosed that I read around the subject, and I got so much comfort out of knowing that I wasn't the only one feeling this way, and that I wasn't going completely insane!! So thank you once again, Claire X
CommentsFinding a site like this has made me feel that I'm not completely alone with this, others hurt as much as I do through no fault of there own. Thank you!
CommentsHi all, Well I am sat here in the computer room of Combat Stress and what a great help they have been. This is my 1st visit but I have been told not my last. To come here and speak to other people with P.T.S.D. is a great help. They know where you are coming from and listen to you as though they are your best friend. It has informed me a lot of what and how I need to do things, so please if you even think you might have P.T.S.D. get in contact with them and they will help you. Thanks Andy for a great site it helps a lot to know you are not the only one who has this illness. Cheers mate Mac.
CommentsHi Andy, Thank you so much for this site, my new man suffers with ptsd after being in Iraq and Afghan (I didn't realise how much until he started opening up to me this weekend). It's really helpful to get an insight into what's going on so I can try and support him as much as I can. I know it's not going to be easy but he is a good man and deserves a chance to rebuild his life. Thanks again
CommentsAndy, good work fella, I have suffered for about 16years and am still suffering. I'm still serving and as a medic instructor I often talk to others that I teach about my condition and talk to them about it and to watch out for others. they are generally surprised at my honesty but they are fixated, good on you and good luck to all that are suffering.
